Elliott Smith — Shytown Chords

  Rate this tab:
Song name: Shytown
Artist(s): Elliott Smith & Pete Krebs
Album: Not too sure.. sorry
Tuning: Standard (though I drop mine a full step down and bring it back up with a capo.

*there is a lot of walking into and out of chords with the use of a very simple picking
pattern. I am not going to type it all out becaues if you listen to the song, you will
realize how easy it is. There is also a Bass Pattern played while going into and out of
the verses and ending the song, it is played by Elliott, but sounds much better if you
play it while doing playing the chords that Pete Krebs plays, which are the ones I have
here. PLEASE go easy on me, I have only been playing 2 months shy of 2 years and
everything I know is self taught. Thanks.

        E A D g b E

G 3 2 0 0 3 3

Listen for timing, because some of the chords change on weird timing, but of course
it's Elliott Smith, it is expected.

Intro: G — A2*— Am7/Am7* — C* — G (This is where the bass pattern comes in.
Also very very simple to pick up)

  g C
Crossing my eyes and making faces

    g Am7/Am7* C
I hope we don't go to too many places

  g C
'Cos then before I go to sleep

  g Am7/Am7* C*
I'll wonder exactly what she means when......

C g A2* Am7/Am7*
When she says, that I aaaammmm..

C*
I am too shy

(Bass Picking part starts again here 2 x's)
Verse's 2 and 3 are exactly the same chords.

Verse 2
Finding a way to stay inside
She always asks me, am I having a good time?
Come in here where the band is playing
Are you coming along, or are you staying?
Well I'm fine, I'm fiiiiinnnee..
Fine quit asking

Instrumental Bridge (starts with bass picing part)

g — C — g — Am7/Am7* — C* — g — C — g — F/C*
G — C — G — Am7/Am7* — C* — G — C — G — (bass picking part)

Verse 3

It's the hardest thing to greet her friends
I always feel like I have to entertain them
All alone with the jokes that I forget
Someone's boyfriend damned the TV set
Well I live, I liiiivvee.....
I live in a shytown
Well I live, yea I liiivvvee....
I live in a shytown.

Don't know if I did that right, or if you can understand that, but if you listen to the
song you will get the idea. The walking in and out of chords usually occurs when going
from the "C" chord into the "G" and also when you go from the "Am7/Am7* to the "C" chord
going into the "G". Yes, I have a tendancy to over explain.
